About the ProjectThis is a Canvas is a public street art exhibition created in partnership with Broward College and Florida Atlantic University. The idea is to bring more public art into the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale in a dynamic way that reflects the changing identity of the city. Traditionally, street art happens wherever an artist finds a need for artistic expression. It's a dialog between the artist and their local environment but it can be difficult for artists to find locations where they are able to work in this way, which deprives cities of this wonderfully vibrant and exciting artistic medium.
This is a Canvas attempts to provide an area of the urban landscape where artists can freely work and create something truly stunning for the city to engage with. The wall will feature new artists throughout the year and bring in a new dynamic for the public to consider as they see each artist at work. Visitors to the site can see the steps each artists takes and even discuss the work with the artist to better understand their motivation for the piece. The entire creative process is on display and makes the exhibition about more than just the final artworks. Artists from every background are encouraged to apply and a mix of styles and levels of experience is paramount to BC and FAU. While working on their work, artists can learn from each other and find new connections to enrich their creative careers. Our Proud Sponsors |
